Design Briefing: British Infantry

Following the announcement that British Infantry will become the third Warfront Studio release, we wanted to share some of the thinking behind the kit and explain the direction we're taking.

While the sculpting process is only just getting underway, the design philosophy has been something we've been refining for months.

A Modern British Infantry Kit

Our goal has always been to create a kit that represents the contemporary British Army as faithfully as possible.

That means modern equipment, modern body armour and, of course, the iconic SA80 family of rifles.

One question we've been asked already is whether we'll be using the new KS1 rifle.

After plenty of discussion, we've decided not to, for now.

The KS1 is certainly an exciting development, but at 28mm scale it shares many visual similarities with the AR15-style rifles already found throughout the US and Western PMC kits. By sticking with the SA80 family, the British Infantry kit immediately stands apart on the tabletop and retains its own unmistakable identity.

Built to Mix and Match

One of the core principles behind every Warfront Studio kit is compatibility.

Just like our US Infantry and Western PMC kits, every component on the British Infantry frame will be fully interchangeable.

Want to build British Special Forces with US equipment?

Go for it.

Need contractors using surplus British gear?

No problem.

The more kits you own, the more possibilities you'll have.

Weapon Options

While the final frame layout is still being refined, the current weapon selection includes:

• Six rifle arm sets equipped with the SA80 and Lightweight Day Sight alongside the Laser Light Module
• One GPMG arm set
• One L86A2 Light Support Weapon arm set (space permitting on the frame)
• NLAW anti-tank firing arms
• Starstreak anti-air firing arms

As always, we're trying to strike the right balance between providing iconic equipment and making the best possible use of the available space on the sprue.

Head Options

Variety has become one of the defining features of our kits, and British Infantry will be no exception.

Current plans include:

• Standard helmets
• Helmets with GSR respirators
• Scrimmed helmets
• Helmets fitted with night vision goggles
• Beret heads

Those beret heads have also sparked one of the more unusual ideas we've had...

Become Part of the Kit?

We're currently discussing the possibility of allowing members of the Warfront community to have their face professionally sculpted onto one of the beret heads.

Not as a one-off miniature.

Not as a limited edition.

Your face would become part of the production frame itself, appearing on every British Infantry sprue we ever manufacture.

It's still just an idea at this stage, but we'd love to hear what you think. If it's something the community gets behind, it might even become a regular feature across future releases.

The Journey Starts Here

Right now, we're at the very beginning of the sculpting process.

At the moment we have a single subject model completed, while the rest of the project is still being built from extensive reference material and concept planning.

There's still plenty of work ahead, but that's exactly why we enjoy sharing these updates. We want you to follow the journey from the very first concepts all the way through to the finished product.
