Expanding Our Forces
Welcome to this week’s Warfront Studio design blog. Today, we’re looking at the latest refinements being made to our Western Private Military Contractors, the first resin support teams planned for our US Infantry, and the continuing development of our plastic British Infantry.
Hard-Plastic Development
Refining the Western PMC Kit
Our Western Private Military Contractors have now reached an important stage of development, with the files undergoing further refinement ahead of production.
Following a detailed review, we identified two areas that needed adjustment. Some of the heads required additional definition, while certain details on the rifles needed to be reduced.
Designing for hard plastic requires balance. Features such as facial details, masks and headgear need enough definition to remain clear at 28mm scale. Conversely, extremely fine details on weapons may not translate reliably into the final plastic components and can make the tooling process unnecessarily complicated.
We are therefore increasing the definition of the heads while simplifying selected details on the rifles. These changes are intended to ensure that every component looks strong on the finished miniature and performs reliably during production.
This refinement process is one of the most important stages in developing a hard-plastic set. A digital sculpt can look excellent on screen, but it must also be designed around the realities of tooling, injection moulding and physical assembly.
The overall design and contents of the PMC kit remain unchanged, and we’ll share the updated components once this work has been completed.
Resin Reinforcements
US Support Teams Enter Development
Once the current PMC refinements are complete, work will move onto the first resin support teams for our US Infantry range.
The first three packs planned are:
- US Headquarters Team
- US Heavy Machine Gun Team
- US Mortar Team
These sets are being designed to complement our hard-plastic US Infantry, allowing players to expand their forces with command personnel and heavier battlefield support.
Producing these teams in resin gives us the flexibility to create more specialised miniatures and equipment without needing to dedicate space to them on the plastic frame. It will also allow us to expand each of our main forces with a broader selection of supporting units over time.
We recently asked our community which of these teams they would add first, and we’re also interested in hearing what other support options you would like to see developed in the future.
Hard-Plastic Development
British Infantry Development Continues
Development of our hard-plastic British Infantry also continues.
The set is still being actively worked on, with its components being reviewed and refined as the kit moves through the design process. Our objective remains to create a versatile modern British infantry set that offers plenty of variety while remaining practical to assemble and use on the tabletop.
We’ll share more detailed previews as individual parts are finalised and the kit moves closer to completion.
More to Come
There is now a great deal happening across all three of our initial ranges. The US Infantry are being expanded with resin support teams, the Western PMCs are undergoing their final production-focused refinements, and the British Infantry continue to take shape.
