BRITISH INFANTRY: FINE-TUNING THE DETAILS

Your Feedback, More Customisation & Revised Weapon Poses

Hello everyone!

I hope you’ll forgive the slightly late Thursday design update, as I write this, it’s already the early hours of Saturday! With our US Infantry release now underway, things have been a little hectic at Warfront HQ.

That hasn’t stopped us working through your feedback on our upcoming British Infantry, and today we have a few changes to share.

Before we get into those, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to offer constructive criticism, share reference images and explain the finer details.

We’re a family of nerds here at Warfront, but there are members of this community whose knowledge of British kit and weapons goes well beyond our own. Your input helps us make better miniatures, and we’re grateful for it.

So, let’s get stuck into the changes!

01 // TORSO DEVELOPMENT

MODULAR TORSOS: MORE CHOICE, BETTER POSES

Modularity is a cornerstone of Warfront’s design. We want our torsos to work with a wide range of weapon arms while retaining the detail and character that make each soldier look the part.

After speaking with currently serving British military personnel, we learnt more about how soldiers customise their body armour to carry the equipment they need for a particular role or mission.

That might mean extra ammunition pouches, map cases, tactical computers or other kit. We designed six distinct torsos with those different loadouts in mind.

However, those fixed loadouts were creating a problem.

Building the pouches directly into the torsos was limiting our options for the weapon poses, particularly with the SA80. Its bullpup layout places much of the weapon’s body towards the rear, so bringing it into a convincing firing position meant fitting it closely around the shoulder and chest equipment.

In practice, we were ending up with particular arms that only fitted particular torsos, leaving very little room for customisation. That was the opposite of what we wanted.

Separate Pouches. More Flexible Loadouts.

Our solution is to remove the fixed pouches from the torsos and provide them as individual components.

This gives the weapon arms more room and lets you choose which pouches to add to each soldier’s loadout.

SA80: REFINING THE DETAILS & FIRING POSES

We’ve also been working on the finer details of the SA80 and the way our soldiers hold it.

One of our priorities with every infantry kit is to include enough rifle arms to build every soldier as a rifleman, should you wish. Getting those arms and weapons right is therefore a big part of getting the whole kit right.

Your feedback highlighted some errors in our earlier SA80 designs, alongside valid concerns about the firing poses.

Removing the fixed torso pouches has allowed us to bring the rifle closer into the shoulder, creating a more natural, tucked-in position that better matches the reference images supplied.

We’ve also refined and standardised details at the front and rear of the rifles to better reflect the configuration and silhouette we’re aiming to represent.

GPMG: ADJUSTING THE GRIP

Lastly, we’ve made some changes to the General Purpose Machine Gun, or GPMG.

While we were happy with the overall weapon design, a few areas needed attention. The most obvious was the supporting hand: in the previous version, it was positioned incorrectly around the ejection port.

We’ve adjusted the grip and pose to better match the reference images you’ve shared, while also refining some of the weapon’s smaller details.
